Super app Grab has unveiled its mental wellness program aimed at gig workers in Singapore.

The program, in partnership with mental health platform Intellect and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, uses the school’s course ‘Mental Wellness: Practical Tools to Safeguard and Enhance Yours’ to educate gig workers about their mental resilience and wellbeing in and outside of work.

This comes as mental health helplines in Singapore receive more calls for support due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The government has since formed the Interagency Taskforce on Mental Health and Wellbeing to lead mental wellness in Singapore.

“Ensuring our driver and delivery partners’ health and wellbeing has always been important to us. Due to their work conditions, our partners may find it challenging to access resources that can equip them with the right knowledge and know-how to look after their mental health,” said Charles Yee, managing director for operations in Singapore at Grab.

“By partnering with Intellect and NP, we hope to offer a structured and accessible program that will help our partners and gig workers better understand and take control of their mental wellbeing.”

The course has been curated for gig workers and they can access a four-hour introductory lesson in a classroom. Participants are guided through topics such as emotional intelligence, identifying signs of and responding to stress and anxiety, and integrating healthy habits into their daily lifestyle.

Once the lesson is over, participants will need to complete three modules from the Intellect app that reinforce the key points learned during the classroom session. Each module consists of several bite-sized e-learning videos, which allows driver and delivery partners to continue their learning during their downtime.

Food delivery platform Foodpanda also previously tied up with Intellect to provide its employees with immediate and personalized mental health support, as well as direct access to local mental health experts in their communities.
